Swing Unlimited 2 (affectionately known as SU2) is the major gateway for musicians of all ages and abilities into the Swing Unlimited Big Band Group (SUBB Group).

First Monday of Every other Month - Regular performance at The Parkstone, 382 Ashley Rd, Upper Parkstone, Poole, BH14 9DQ 7:30 til 9:30The purpose of SU2 is to provide all the necessary support, teaching, guidance and experience for personal musical development in a Big Band environment. The objective is to improve and enhance players understanding & appreciation of – as well as their technical performance skills in playing - big band jazz music. This is achieved through regular rehearsals and performances.

Performances are concerts, charitable events, carnivals, fetes and other outdoor and indoor events, all of which are usually open to the public.

SU2 rehearse once each week for people to gain experience and improve their technique and skills as musicians. This includes learning about, understanding and practising playing scales, chords, rhythm, phrasing, articulation, structure and style. Rehearsals are always relaxed and informal and most of all, FUN.

Rehearsal details:

Every Monday except First Monday of the Month, 7.30 to 9.30 pm.

Rehearsal venue: Corpus Christi Junior School Hall, St James's Square, Boscombe, Bournemouth BH5 2BX.

Rehearsal periods follow the academic term but often is extended.

Nominal instrumental playing standard (at entry level) = Grade 5 (abrsm – no certificate or “proof” required)

Cost is £4.00 per rehearsal.

Special guests from SUBB to take rehearsals with SU2

The content and format of SU2 rehearsals varies according to the needs of the players and demands of the music being rehearsed. Being part of the SUBB group gives us the opportunity to call upon the experience & expertise of the professional musicians who play for the “main” band.

Patrick has arranged for people such as James Stead (keyboard, guitar, drums, bass), Richard Curren (trombone, brass), Magnus Mckee (saxes) and Alan Elliott (drums, percussion) to take specialist “sectional” rehearsals with SU2. A rhythm-section master class will be run by James Stead, and a whole-band percussion workshop will be led by Alan Elliott in addition to brass and reeds sectionals taken by Richard and Magnus.

Plans are also being formed to run a Summer Jazz Improvisation Workshop – open to all, but with discounts for SU2 members. Watch this space!
